Unova gets a pass because America has no culture to begin with so you literally can't fuck up anything at all
But for countries with actual cultures it's better to focus on the big picture and broad traditions because
1: GF as a Japanese company will find really hard to understand or adapt local cultural expressions into a game that's supposed to appeal to a massive audience
2: by focusing on more local cultures they risk messing up and misrepresenting said cultures (and we know they actually care about not being racist/culturally insensitive)
3: since you are focusing on a whole country the small details that you get to represent leave more impact because the expectations are lower overall (I know a couple of Spics who found the weird pokemon centers of SV to be good representation because apparently in Spain they have some convenience stores that look like those, or something?)
