Now was a good time to give Ash a break, Goh could have had his Pokemon hunting Spin-off with him as the only protagonist, possibly a 24-episode series would have been enough.
Then they could pick up the story of Ash with the events of Galar taking their time to introduce us to the characters, possibly having an Ash traveling alone like in the new movies and having as supporting characters 4 rivals (Gloria, Hop, Marnie, and Bede ) at the end of this series with Ash having won his badges they leave us with the cliffhanger that there will not be a league in Galar but that it will be a world tournament.
Now this third part reintroduces characters like Goh hunting legendary (By now he is already an experienced trainer) and Ash's episodes only focus on battles for the world ranking with high-level trainer and not the filler trainers that has given us the current series.
Ignoring all my autistic fanfiction, the real problem with PJ is that this is not succeeding with a mainstream audience, I will not deny that PJ has fans, but these are a minority and the owners of this IP do not care about fans, they care about the number$ and if the product is not working they simply change it, this is the reason for the contrasting change from XY-Z to SM, the first was a success among the fans but its rating was very low, the second was controversial and divisive among the fans, but raised the ratings.
My final point, if the anime is not being successful with this formula it is better to end this and try another formula.
