>>47631507>Kalos is bland and unmemorableI mean, I've said before I seem to have some sort of dementia related to it, so I get where you're coming from but I'm being genuine
>Gen 4 because it's the worst genOn a personal level I dislike Sinnoh, but that's more arguable than the actual engine level issues that HGSS only mostly fixes
>Open-world Pokemon doesn't workPersonally I think open world in general isn't very good, but RPGs and especially JRPGs have an even more uphill battle to fight because of how the stats work in these games. If you have some counterexamples when it comes to JRPGs and specifically Pokemon I'd love to hear them, I like learning more about video games.
>>47631547>open world just means a high level of agency is given to the player to complete tasks in multiple different ways. And unfortunately it's to both game's detriments. People like to mention Gen 2's fucked level curve, but I like to bring up that the entire mid-late game of Gen 1 is kind of the same level with a lot of repeat Pokemon (the latter of which is just an unfortunate side effect of the limited Pokemon pool at the time). I'd vouch for a more Xenoblade 2, or to use an example from Pokemon, Hoenn approach, where the maps are big enough and reasonably full of content, but the actual progression is mostly linear.
>>47637527Man, the Lost Hotel is a neat area in general, probably the best thing Kalos has to offer, I'd love to see more map design like that. On the other hand, Alola has some neat map design sometimes (we can argue about the finer details but it's usually conceptually sound) but the entire second island is fucking garbage. Speaking of garbage, you forgot one area on the third island.
