>>45063297>and Gen 4 & 5 were on the DS, the highest selling video game device on the planet. And yet, they both sold less than SwooSh.There's some factors you're disregarding. First of all, the DS was not the best selling video game device on the planet at the time of DP's launch. A better metric would be to compare hardware sales at each game's respective releases.
>DP released in Japan in September 2006>DS sales in December 2006 were at 35.61m>DP released in the west in spring - summer 2007>DS sales in march 2007 were at 40.20m>SWSH released worldwide in November 2019>Switch sales in October 2019 were 40.74m>DP released roughly two and a half years into the DS's life>SWSH released roughly two and a half years into the Switch's lifeBasically, gens IV and VIII are on roughly equal footing. Of course, the hard numbers still have SWSH outselling DP, however there's still one more factor to take into account: DLC. The announcement of DLC, and the revelation that there would be no plans for a third version, may have gotten people holding out for a definitive version to purchase SWSH earlier than they might have otherwise. Seeing as SWSH + DLC will be the definitive version of the game, it's too early to make an actual call on which gen wins out, as inevitably Platinum should be included. Unless GF is lying through their teeth and they make another Galar game after the all-in-one pack.
Mind you, it's still perfectly possible that SWSH might outsell DP + Platinum combined. Only time will tell.
As for gen V, those games released very late into the DS' lifespan, when Nintendo was already hyping up the 3DS' release. When it came outside of Japan the 3DS was already out and people were asking why the new Pokemon games were on the old 3DS. As a general rule, games released at the end of a console's lifespan, especially during the transition, tend to suffer in sales. Even Pokemon.
Anyways, all the sales in the world won't change SWSH being shit.
