>Thought Pokemon would fail outside of JapanYou had a jarpig being released exclusively for the Game Boy in 1998 (1999 PAL), in a market that historically did not care much for jarpigs until the PS1 dazzled people with FMV cutscenes and gave rental families memory card saves, launching the same month as Metal fucking Gear Solid, and targeting an audience known for having some of the worst reading comprehension skills in the world. All signs pointed to Pokemon failing, if not for the two main reasons for its worldwide success.
1) Kids fucking love the designs, doesn't matter where in the world they're from everybody loves seeing Charizard and Mewtwo and shit
2) The anime managed to break through the localization barrier and get kids hyped up on buying into the franchise (while being one of the major contributors to anime being widely accepted in the west alongside DBZ)
>Thought the Switch would failWii U failed big time and PS4 was leaps and bounds above the competition, what with Xbone shooting itself in the foot in such a massive fuckup and Sony using its continued dominance to sway third parties into exclusivity* deals across the board. Didn't help that the Switch's big launch game (new Zelda, guaranteed system seller) was still coming out to the Wii U, so even Wii U owners wouldn't feel the need to trade in yet. Yet it managed to succeed big time, the home/handheld gimmick worked to its advantage and Nintendo continued giving it strong first-party support with Odyssey, Xenoblade, even moving Pokemon to it after the 3DS retired. Indies also took to the Switch because Nintendo owners actually buy games, which they have still proven to this day because nobody on Xbox or PS5 buys indieshit. Then the covid happened, suddenly PS5 shot itself in the foot in a massive fuckup (that's still happening) and everybody was buying a Switch in droves.
Also did he fucking put himself in the game as the snack guy?
