>>53632897Sun and Moon were good. The art style put people off, but it wasn't that horrible. The more cartoonish designs were fine, the storyline progressed rather nicely while being a better version of the games' stories
with the Ultra Beasts having sentai elements and actual world-ending threats. It was a slow burner, but when it got going, it fucking got going. Z-moves were interesting as well, especially in later battles where they actually served as finishers. Super easy to predict, but still satisfying.
Journeys is good in theory, but there are many flaws with the characters and setting. For one, Ash is more of a sidelined character with Goh, the other main protagonist, having too much screentime when he's boring as fuck. The third protagonist, Koharu, doesn't get any real character development until the end (really good character development, but sadly wasted), and she's pretty much just a side character unless she's put in the main character spotlight. The story is kind of episodic, but it follows a consistent chain of "Ash and Goh go to this region, do this thing, learn about pokemon Ash already knew of, then they return to Kanto for a while", sometimes having them stay in a region for a few days. The fights and Gigantimax aren't that interesting until later, when it follows Sword and Shield's story and has Eternatus show up. Then it's kind of...bland, to be honest. The Masters Eight Tournament is really fucking bad when it's not Ash fighting, as trainers you expect to be good end up being absolutely fucking retarded, killing their character entirely so they can be stepping stones. Too much Goh, too much of nothing really mattering, and a lackluster story most of the time. It was definitely one of the weaker series, but it had its moments.
The last special episodes were all pretty good, especially the tear jerker episode. Ash's sendoff is divisive, but it suits his character perfectly. I mean, you can't end his story any other way.
