We know more about Ash then anything about Alain. Both his backstories and motivation are weak while he has no personality at all. The only backstory he has that he was an assistant of Sycamore who wasn't satisfied with his job for no reason and somehow become strong because favoritism and join Lysandre because he learn "The world has bad people who does bad thing".
At least Ash face consequence for his flaw and learn from them to develop as a better character. Not only Alain faced no consequence for his mistakes at all but the anime refuse to admit he did anything wrong at all and want everybody to pity him like a victim.
Only a chunni with victim complex would consider Alain as a good MC.
