The Bulbasaur line is one of my favorites of all time and I don't like how people think I'm some seething hipster fag for thinking that, it's just because I got really into Pokespe as a kid and Red's was cool as fuck.
Plus there are a number of very competent grass types that are good because of tools they only get by being grass type. It'll also always be a starter type and get lots of exposure that way, and according to that google poll Sceptile, Serperior, and Decidueye are the fan favorite final evos of their gens, with first stages like Bulbasaur and Rowlet also doing very well. If anything, I think the real complaint about grass type is how much better grass starters are than most of the rest of the type design-wise. Seriously, it feels like all other grass types are either feminine flowers (which already peaked at Roserade) or unfortunate shitmons. Only a couple like Breloom really stand out as cool monsters.
