But that's incomplete, OP. Any Pokémon that appear at the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town are "literal ghosts" without the Silph Scope.

Its not only Red. Why do you think Silph developed the Silph Scope to begin with? Why did Team Rocket steal it? Cause they need it to see Pokemon in the tower too.

Because Red is a ghost himself, he needs it to interact with other ghosts. That's probably why Gary couldn't see him.

Perhaps it was due to the specific issue with Lavender tower, that is, an angry Marowak ghost haunting it. Perhaps the Gastlys were empowered somehow by this unique situation. No game since has ever had a vengeful ghost thing going on.

You name the rival yourself in the games, if we're going by what the majority of people named him his name is probably actually FUCKFACE or something like that.

I hate it when people get all picky about what you refer to the characters as when you've always been able to choose the name.

This makes the most sense, although When you meet Blue in the pokemon tower, he claims to have caught a Cubone. Unless he built his own Silph Scope he shouldn't be ableto aee the ghosts, since the Marowak is still flipping its shit.

Probably because it was something unique to the wild pokemon in Lavendar Tower. This is why you can battle Agatha fine with those types of pokemon fine and it never happens with any other place ever.
