If I've got a steelix, and my friend uses fire punch, would all of my steelix's defense just eat the damage from his fire punch?

You can't OHKO Steelix though, if it has Sturdy, which it should.

Should add that means most of the posts here are wrong, if the strongest Fire Punch in the game only has a 3% chance of OHKOing a 252 HP/0 Def Steelix.
