What I mean by that is that there will be more of a focus on releasing new games to take maintain consumer interest and less of a focus on releasing new games with significant gameplay improvements or new design ideas.
With a focus like that you then wander into bland homogenized game experiences that are exactly the same as the last iteration except with an ever increasing amount of technical bugs.
I mean look at Diamond And Pearl, Gamefreak's first foray into DS gaming. They both had significant gameplay flaws that hampered the experience. Then nearly two years later they released Platinum, which fixed most if not all of the major flaws in D/P and introduced some new features of it's own. Then a year later they released Heart Gold/Soul Silver. HG/SS used a heavily modified version of the Platinum Game engine, which included a host of new features that everyone loved. All of this would not be possible if it weren't for the two year break between D/P and Pt that allowed Gamefreak to figure out everything they did wrong on initial release.
If you were to switch over to releasing games as soon as consumer interest waned there's no time to bugfix or implement new features and the entire Pokemon series could've been shuttered before this board was even made.
Usage statistics I just find incredibly creepy. They used to have you fill out this little card that came with the game, send it back and you'd get a neat little coin or figure or coupon for half off something. Now you're either forced to do it to enjoy the game or you get nothing.
