I would like it to peter out at 10 or 12 gens.
Because eventually some major innovation will be required to keep the franchise afloat and reputable.

Part of me wishes Pokémon would end at Gen 6 because in Gen 6 one will finally be able to make a team with your favorite from each gen, spanning generations, and Gen 7 would ruin everything

Another part of me wants to catch 1000 Pokémon

I'd say this, at least in terms of new pokemon.
They'd undoubtedly keep making a few games after that, but they wouldn't do more than 1000 pokemon.
