He was Scyther's counter part in 1st gen, but then they created Scizor and Heracross. Pinsir didn't get an evolution, but has the same BST as Heracross, so now he's a counterpart to Heracross, which is funny because Pinsir is just a bad Heracross.
People always thought Jynx was a counterpart to Electabuzz and Magmar, but I sort of disagree. Maybe up to 3rd gen it was, because in 2nd gen they created the babies for all of them, but 4th gen very clearly establishes Electabuzz and Magmar as each other's counterparts and leaves Jynx aside. Also, Electabuzz and Magmar have always been version exclusives in opposite versions, so there's a stronger bond between them than there is between both and Jynx.
