I completed my crystal version pokédex using only two consoles and my cartriges. That includes celebi.

Third gen is a bitch. You need to have all 7 games (yes, seven) in that gen and beat 5/7 completely to be able to trade between them. I'm currently working on this one and after beating 4/7 I'm already exhausted.

Do you have to have all Pokemon from all generations on every game to have completed pokedex?

yes, and yes. Guy who completed the pokedex here, I had missed a few events, but I managed to get trades, I could give anyone who needs one a Jirachi, but mew was the hardest, fucking pokemon ranch.

What do you mean mew ranch?
If I already have mew in yellow version can't I just trade him up when I get there?

you can't trade from gen 2 to gen 3
the ranch I was talking about was wiiware that allows you to get mew, if you throw in 999 other pokemon, it was a pain in the ass.

You can't trade up past 2nd gen. 3rd gen wasn't backwards compatible.

They gave out Mew not too long ago in 4th gen, it'd probably be easier to get one of those than the Pokemon Ranch one.

Between all 7 games in the gen, you can. But because of restrictions due to the national dex you cannot trade between the games until you completely beat all of them.
