I want to get into Pokemon again, also are there pokemon recommendation charts, about what pokemons are good, what to avoid, what moves are the best etc...?

Start off with Black and White.
Not to say that the previous games were bad, but Black and White were essentially a reboot. You're better off starting with the latest, especially at this time when it has a lot of consideration for new players. After that just head to Black or White 2 and play the earlier games if you want.

If you want to get back into the series, why start off at something quite old?
I say first try Black or White. As the anons mentioned above they are very noob friendly. It'll also give you a sense of the direction the series is going instead of dwelling on to the past.

OP, international Red and Blue are like Japanese Red and Green for what it matters to you. Japanese Blue's code was reused for international Red and Blue but the core elements are from Red and Green. So go with the one that has the version-exclusive Pokémon you prefer.

Then play Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Black/White and Black 2/White 2. Also play the remakes of Red and Green as well as of Gold and Silver if you feel like it.
