so uh... sup /vp/

I haven't been on this board, nor 4chan in general, in quite a while, but I used to be a regular for some time and have only recently started lurking your board again. basically, I have a request: I have never gotten into competitive play and would like to.

I've always been interested in it but was a bit skeptic because it looked like the kind of metagame that forces you to pick a bunch of most-powerful-things and all the rest is crap, and also because I was discouraged by the amount of knowledge competitive seemed to require, but hey those are not reasons enough not to try.

I have only recently kinda came to terms with my Karenfaggotry, although I would still like to build a team with those who qualify both as good pokèmon and bros, and even if I were to disregard my favorite pokèmon I'm still the type to not play stuff with traditional/prevalent strategies (inb4 hipster).

so, yeah, I was wondering if any of you who has Steam, patience, and endorses Smogon was willing to add me and help me build a team because even though I've been reading a lot about competitive I'm still clueless about how to correctly build a team, which are the best items, and most importantly I'd like to practice via wi-fi.

I'm not asking one of you to do all the work for me, just a sort of step-by-step guide with advice and practice (I'm ok with getting raped), because even though I know the basics (I know about IVs, EVs, type coverage, tiers etc., no idea how to build a team, about items, and 0 experience) guides don't seem to help much, possibly because I am fucking dumb.

If anyone's interested I'll provide them with my steam name or whatever, although that's not obligatory, nor is approving of Smogon, I'm open to everything but of course I'd like to build a team based on that ruleset because it seems to be popular and I don't want to be snobbed in case I'll be looking for trainers to battle.
