>>11813258>implying that not all Chimchar users are mentally disabledSeriously, I can forgive Torchic because it was the first of its kind, but Chimchar and Tepig are worthless. You picked the wrong generation to break from Water-type starters; the only games where it's advantageous to pick Fire are the Johto games, where the second Gym Leader (before you have a full selection of Pokémon to choose from) is Bug-type and (in Gen2 itself, fixed for the remakes) the Water starter didn't learn the HM move Waterfall anyway, which would make another Water user necessary to get through the game. So there, the Fire-type had the best advantages. But in all the other generations until 5, Game Freak made the Fire-type starter hard mode with a Rock-type first Gym, and no the Fire/Fighting evolutions don't count as making it easier because almost nobody is actually going to grind their Starter to level 16 or 18 or wherever to evolve it before the first Gym. And 5 was just ruined by its Fire starter being the third in a row to bear the Fighting secondary type.
