Nerv's staff were a mixed bag but I still cared more about the dyke and glasses guy than Asuka when she supposedly died.
Rei and Gendou are pretty cool since the latter is an interesting character and the former gets an amazing amount of development which makes you inevitably like her.
However in the new movies I like everyone.
Shinji learns to be manly and Asuka just have trouble relating to others and is not an angsty bitch anymore.
Rei makes a nice damsel in distress and Mari is too much fun.
