I bought a game, not a fucking book.
The first 30 minutes of gameplay is text. With about 5 minutes of gameplay followed by another 30 minutes of text.
I can't be the only one who's upset by this.

It clears up a bit later on, but it is still very wordy.

Take that as you will though, because it ended up being the only story that pokemon ever told that was actually any good, along with PMD explorers

I'm assuming the main character went insane at the sight of him losing his human form and is scraping at the bottom of the barrel to try and find anything good to say about the situation. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would go mad at the revelation as well.

I'd be having the time of my life. Being human is boring, if i could vomit up hundreds of gallons of water, i'd be pretty stoked. None the less, the gameplay is just too damn slow, When i actually play, it's lots of fun, but then i get to a cutscene and i just hit the a button for about 5 minutes, then i doze off and continue hitting it, and they're still talking 5 minutes later. All i'm saying is that they could have cut down the dialogue a bit, or atleast made it less about dragging on about the same subject for a damn hour.

As much as I enjoyed the story (on an overall basis, it picks up drastically in about the last 7 hours or so) It really needed a pair of editing secateurs to trim it down and get to the point quicker in too many instances to count.

Older PMD games had the bad habit of showing you a flashback systematically. Sometimes it's nice. But you often have it for stuff that was said literally few moments earlier.

Yes, and they said they bought a game which is correct, but they should've known they were buying a game from a series that is consistently text heavy since the main draw is the story itself. Obviously if OP bought Mystery Dungeon for the gameplay they are the one lacking the reading comprehension, because /vp/ shits all over how bad the gameplay is constantly.

But I didn't really enjoy the gameplay. Just felt boring and uninspired. I blew through the first section of dungeon in about 45 seconds, it's like the game plays itself.

A game doesn't need an excessive amount of redundant dialogue for the focus to be on the story.

OP is complaining that the presentation of the story is poor and repetitive, not that he doesn't like the fact that the story is a big part of the game.

What else are you going to do with a video game other than play it? Use a disc as a frisbee? Gnaw on all your carts as an after-dinner snack?

Watch a movie or read a book if you want to be presented with a story, play a video game when you want to, you know, PLAY it and interact with the story.

It's longer than most demos you get on the 3DS, too.

And yes, I realize it was a tutorial dungeon, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be fun or even the least bit difficult.

After playing the demo, I just didn't feel like it was a game I'd want to pay $40 for, or even want to replay the demo. The full game isn't going to play any differently or entertain me any more than the demo did.

The franchise has always been more about the immersion than the gameplay, but this game does lots of things to break that immersion like having a DLC merchant in the town itself who just points you to the title menu where you buy it. Completely fucking unnecessary. They also have those gay little "take a break" reminders they are sticking into every new kids game these days to please soccer moms.

Full game has pretty title screen and cutscenes at the beginning to hook you into the world. My biggest problem with the demo is that the main feature of this installment besides the dumb Magnagates is building your Pokemon Paradise which you can customize with shops, dojos, berry crop fields, etc. yet the demo cuts off before you even get to that at all. If the Demo had gone on about three dungeons longer it would've been decent, but the demo sells the content of the game extreme short as is.
