I seriously hope you don't take anything that happens in the anime or manga as what GF intended when they made any of the pokemon
the anime in particular takes tons of liberties

No, it still stands on all fours. It just uses one arm to bring out the sword.

pic related is the only image I could find of it standing. Looks silly as hell, but at least it's something.
