>The professor is once again an old mean. He studies the individuality of Pokemon within their own species. He's pretty serious like Rowan was but isn't very important to the story. Instead his assistant will show up every so often. She's about 20 and is really eccentric and wants to be a professor as well, focusing on the hidden potential of Pokemon. She has an Eevee.
>Your rival is the opposite gender of you, but isn't the other playable character(who will appear as a partner in the battle facility, like usual). If you're a boy, your rival is a fashionable girl with a demure personality. If you're a girl, your rival is a boisterous bigger guy who looks like Stephan that's based on a rowdy sports fan. The one who isn't your rival is still in your group of friends and be a minor character with the starter yours is strong against, although his role is significantly smaller than Bianca or Brendan/May.
>The starting town is a small village again that doesn't have a lab, but it has a trainer school where the professor is having a lecture.
>The first battle before you even get a Pokemon is a simulation battle between your rival. It's highly likely you will lose this one since you have Metagross with crappy moves while your rival has Garchomp.
>After the battle, the professor's assistant will notice your potential and give your rival and you a starter(the other friend will be late).
