So, making do with the shittiest selection of starters known to man in a Mystery Dungeon game, who should I pick? I've narrowed my choices down to Tepig or Axew.

Pikachu has always been a partner in the previous games, so it'll be the same here.

Tepig or Axew. Wat do?

There is a lot of dialogue in this game, and the text speed is slow without any way to change it (unfortunately) but the game starts getting really good at the halfway mark when Espeon and Umbreon show up.

i am playing the demo. Just playing it on the 3DS feels different from the other, but I hope to get accustom to that soon. Also, I hope to get used to the tile layout because of the new 3d animation. All in all it seems cool, but I hate Quagsire. He talks like a rapist.

It isn't as broken as you'd think since all moves in Mystery Dungeon games work a tad differently. It is nice though since it can shoot around corners unlike most of Axew's other attacks so far. Don't remember if Physical or Special, but I know you can pretty much influence anything to go any way in these games.

I think you press L and R to change it?

Personally I play with the map on both screens because I don't want to glance down at the bottom screen all the time but sometimes it's hard to see it on the top screen.

Most work as closely as they could to how they work in the main series. They have been tweaked to make sense in this game.

To my knowledge no, but I could be wrong on this. I know Pokemon with multiple abilities still randomly get one since I've already run into something with water absorb and fought another that didn't have it.

Ive loved the Mystery Dungeon Series since Red/Blue 1st came out but this may just be a deal breaker right here...

The variety feels fine when you're playing if that makes any difference to you. The things that actually feel like they affect the quality of the game is the slow text speed and only taking one request at a time.

I'm pretty sure in the older games the Pokemon had all their abilities, if they had two. So something like Bronzong had Heatproof AND Levitate, etc. I think in the new one each Pokemon only get one.

This isn't a first party Nintendo title, but they'll probably offer similar DLC soon. You should pick up the first DLC for free before that offer expires if you have the full game.

My question for you guys is that do you evolve in this game? Last time I played Mystery Dungeon was when it first came out and I can't remember if you evolved or not. I'm Axew and it'd be a bummer if I didn't evolve into a haxorus master race

When I was playing the demo at my friend's place I managed to make one out of my bottle opener keychain, a CD like you said, and my friend's cat's water bowl. I felt like an idiot when his roomie asked what I was doing. Havn't played with the feature since I got the full game.

They are accessed from the title screen. If there's no difference between the demo and main game they give you a random party to clear a random dungeon with. The rewards from the dungeon and anything else in your inventory when you finish it including currency are transferred to your deposit box inside the main game when you finish them.

I havn't seen anything that said "Pokemon have been prevented from evolving due to these mysterious Magnagates" or anything similar so far. I just had my first runin with weather in this game. Holy fuck they made it intense. No recovering hp while walking, plus Sandstorm and Hail damage you. Makes it a race for the stairs.

I'm sure that was the intention, but I can't help but continue to ship them as the game goes on after the beginning when Emolga was against Virizion joining the team. Felt like jealousy and not wanting to give up Dunsparce to her, even if it was intended as protecting Dunsparce in a more brotherly way. I thought Emolga was a girl at first too. Was disappointed when it was a guy.

Well, this pretty much confirms my suspicion. Emolga is such a bro. Hope he gets a happy ending somehow, even if Dunsparce ends up with Virizion as I imagine he will.

Beat the game with Axew and Pikachu.
Game totally holds your hand until the last leg of the story, and then essentially pushes you down a flight of stairs and beats you with a pipe wrench. But maybe that's because i was a dragon pokemon in a fucking ice castle in the sky
I don't know whether or not to like this game. If this took an extra year or so and added a bunch of other pokemon, it'd be kind of better

Can't Stack requests
can't change text speed
can't pick out what gender your pokemon or your partner's
Still can't evolve during the main story line
Small selection of starter pokemons
Icons of pokemon aren't as expressive as they use to be

Indifferent:
Story is worst than Explorer of Sky, but still decent nontheless
the removal of the questionare, it was fun answering them and resetting the game till you get the pokemon you want

The partner was a big improvement from Explorers of Sky. Aside from his occasional moments of idiocy (which there's only a couple) he's a way stronger character than before, which is a symbol for the improvement of the characters as a whole from Explorers. Well developed, and they actually do something unlike the Wigglytuff Guild.

My favorite would have to be quite possibly the messiah of the pokemon world Hydreigon/The Voice Of Life Dependable, heroic, and actually quite hilarious at times - made me very glad he wasn't a stoic character like Grovyle (I liked him, but could he at least be happy to be reunited with the main character or smile once?), but a very passionate individual and an overall joy to be around when he isn't saving your ass from certain death

It's a good game the story is really nice and the low selection of pokemon doesn't even bother me.
The only thing I'm actually missing in this game is Vanniluxe and it would be perfect. Text speed isnt really a problem idk I just hold B.

Nah I hated the quiz and I would have chosen Axew anyway if we had all of the starters.
Multiple requests Idk it doesn't really bother me and text speed doesn't bother me. I'm busy grinding in companion mode but the final boss probably won't bother me anyway the story has already fucked me up

The prankster ability in this game is so cool and helping hand is really useful I beat most of the hard bosses on the multiplayer request board with just my Audino who would normally be useless in the main game but when she's dealing 50 damage with one hit she's a monster

Out of all things this is the only thing that bothers me.
In the previous games I'd do 4 or 5 requests at a time to rack up points.
I had a little bit of trouble getting used to this new system.

Jokes on you, I ran an Audino with Retaliate through all of the original White including E4, and it was one of my team's best members. They have just enough bulk and attack to get away with anything. They also learn tons of trollsy moves.

Hop in with that, then back out with Regenerator. Rinse and repeat anytime something faints. You're pretty much guaranteed a kill and you maintain high health on the Audino.

Wow, on that note, anyone else surprised at how difficult this remains despite the stripped features that should make it easier? I keep having to be really careful and clever to survive the dungeons I've been in. If you aren't on your toes it isn't hard at all to die like I thought it would be. I've also been underleveling a bit though, so this might be part of it. Came back from the frozen glacier with Zorua I recruited still 2 levels higher than me after I beat the entire area. Made sense why they were hitting me so hard.

I'm pretty sure there is, because the game tells me I can recruit more everytime I add a new area to my paradise, but I've yet to actually hit a limit and I pretty much say yes to every species once.

I had that moment too. Bring them into your party. The moment you step into a dungeon they get all the exp they missed through leveling outside and you go through the move learning process etc.

See his accumulated Exp? He gets a shit ton of exp while not with you, but he doesn't get the levels. When you next go into a dungeon with him, all those experience points will let him instantly go to the level all those exp points would have left him off at.

I'm gonna guess this is so you can go through all the 'learn or forget this move' shots with whoever you're bringing in
