They're sure acting full of themselves in the torrent description too, making it seem as if they discovered some incredibly rare shit, when it's just a encode of an episode that's been freely available to rip from Japanese Hulu for half a year or so now.

And not exactly everyone was aware that the Hulu rips were the original versions,
and nobody ripped them and shared them openly before either as far I know.
The difference between the original and the newer version is quite huge in my opinion by the way.

It all comes across as if they're providing some sort of invaluable service they should be worshipped for, and like they're trying to build some sort of community. Around raw encodes. For a single series. Where they can take an entire week to release at times, at which point there are other encodes of the episode out anyway. And sometimes even fansubs.

Add in the fact that they're taking money for exclusive access to stuff now too, and... yeah, they really come across as stuck-up dicks.

movies, etc on a server. Last I checked HDDs aren't free.
There's much more than just '5 seconds' that's different by the way.
And yes, the quality isn't perfect, but last time I checked it isn't
a bad thing to provide untouched rips to the public.

So what you're saying is that they're keeping a bunch of files they're not sharing with the non-paying public on servers. Then they claim they can't pay for these servers, so they charge money for access to the files.

Yes, they're available from hulu, but who even knew that? Hulu Japan is region-locked and only available to subscribers. So it's not as if they were freely available in the same was as Hulu USA is. Also, episode 1 on Hulu Japan is the edited version, so anyone who just cursorily checks may not even notice.
There are various differences -- certainly, it's not that much in total, but the re-edits are annoying if you know what to look for.

Anything non-public on their server should be made so. To which I'd say same to your materials, 11842992, since you obviously knew about this but didn't attempt anything with it.
There is an annoyingly high amount of material not available publicly concerning the JP Pokemon anime. There is an even larger amount not available subbed. Be you PO, PM, or whoever -- if you can help fix that, then do.

Because you're literally the first person I've seen who's expressed an interest in low-quality pixelated encodes of episodes that have been available in far higher quality for ages, albeit with some tiny differences you won't find unless you obsessively compare the two.

No one distributes old TV raws/subs of series that have DVD/Bluray rips for the same material either, for the exact same reason. There's no demand for lower-quality versions just because they happen to have some random sponsor message or whatever that wasn't included in the higher-quality version. It just isn't done, because no one cares. And that's why I didn't bother ripping those episodes.

No, those were actually substantial differences.

Go check with the Highschool of the Dead community or something and see how many people care about the preservation of the various broadcast editions of the different episodes so people can compare and contrast exactly how different scenes were censored on different stations.

These are ultra-minor visual edits you won't notice unless you're comparing the two in extreme detail. It couldn't be more different from the Star Wars situation if it tried. Most of the episodes just have a slightly different opening theme, and that's all.

On our side, there is no attempt to hoard them.

And Highschool of the Dead isn't a good comparison either. That was censored for TV, and uncut later. Early Pokemon was uncut for TV and censored later. In both cases, there are several censored versions and one uncensored version -- this was wanted because it was the uncensored version. There is a difference between something like a sponsor message, which is more or less a fact of anime, and getting censored for later audiences.

I control my own opinions. Others are welcome to others. Whether something is wanted by one person or a million, it is still desired by the members of that group. Even here, it appears to have been wanted by various people, see 11842551 and 11845153.

Nothing. In fact, the censoring visible in Pokemon is different between international releases, current Japanese TV, Japanese DVD, and Japanese VHS. Though probably hardly anyone cares about such.

Often, there is. Consider Disney's editing of movies for rereleases, for example. It's not hard to find people who prefer older, less edited versions than newer, more edited versions. It may not be a vast audience but it's a non-zero one.
With this being released, the audience can increase from people living in Japan (or can circumvent such requirements), with a current subscription to Hulu Japan within the period of availability, that know that Hulu has the uncensored version (it's not mentioned on the site anywhere), and having an interest in the uncensored cut; to just people who have an interest in the uncensored cut.

Whether it's movies silencing swear words or beams of light taking up half of the screen, censorship is also, by nature, intended to be irreversible. There are various cases where uncensored versions have had a wide enough audience to allow commercial rereleases that are specifically uncensored, for example Metropolis (1927).

The point I attempted to make was the change was the reverse way around; censored then uncensored instead of uncensored then censored. Most people will watch whatever's common for them, and that'll be it. However with Pokemon, as with Star Wars, the common version is the edited version.
Anyone who has ever watched Pokemon episode 38 has likely, at that point, shown an interest in viewing uncensored footage. So it's not as if nobody at all cares about removal of censorship.
