Anything that enables you to cut time from an incredibly tedious and/or boring task.
For instance, catching a shiny is supposed to be rare as fuck. If you're willing to go through the pain of spending endless hours of soft resetting/wild battles/egg hatching/whatever to get your shiny, then it's your choice. That's why it's rare.
If you just RNG it, you're cheating.
