This might be a stupid question, but I can't find the answer anywhere else, so bear with me.

I'm at the Desert Ruins, standing in front of Volcarona, and I'm wondering- in Gen 4, will a legendary shiny appear shiny outside of battle?
I just want to know if I can soft reset until I get a shiny, or if I'm just wasting my time on this one.
