I just realized I've been IV breeding yet I have no idea how to battle.

What's the best way for a newfag trainer to get into competitive?

Been watching Battle Videos on Wi-Fi, and Random Matchup is just 3v3 and unsuitable for practice.

Download Pokemon Online and play for 9001 hours.

Also, watch YouTubers. Their narrations really help.

Start with pokeaimMD (/user/pokeaimMD) if you're unsure. He's one of the best, imo.

Basically this. Practice makes perfect. Adjust your team to what you see popularized in the competetive scene. Smogon has good moveset shit if you really want training wheels going into it.

In black and white you can watch recorded fights and even search by pokemon. If you're interested in how people use the pokemon you have, that's one thing I would recommend. Smogon movesets are usually pretty good as a starting point, then you can modify them for what your team needs.
Serebii movesets tend to be lame and hyper-offensive, though.

Jesus there sure is a lot of switching in comp. I remember when I played Stadium with my sis we didn't allow each other to switch out because we thought it was cheap.

I do want to use my favorites but I don't want to be retarded with it. I love Roserade and Crobat but I don't know if I can have a team with two Poison types on it, so one of them might have to go.

I sorta want to use a Trick Room team, though, it sounds really fun. But difficult.

doesnt matter as to "how" i know perfectly how it will get beaten, but those are the chances im willing to take, albiet they dont win often, when they do it feels like a better team experience.

I have a team of favorites that are all RU and NU pokemon, but I gave them moves, items, and abilities that allow me to use them in OU effectively.
