In the spirit of Hollywood being completely out of ideas in 2013, it's decided to do what it's done to everything for the last five years, and find a franchise from the childhood of 20-somethings and give it a gritty, realistic reboot.

The franchise that will get a reboot is Pokemon, which will be rebooted as "Pocket Monsters" and will get a two-hour gritty live-action adaptation with multi-million dollar CGI, because let's face it, that's a guaranteed moneymaker.

What is the movie about, /vp/? Who is the protag, what is the plot, and what monsters appear in it? How does Hollywood change the movie to make it "more realistic"?

It will star Red (not Ash, Red) but the villain will still have a Team Plasma motif and N, but Ghetsis will be Giovanni and the team will be called "Team Rocket"

There will be no gyms, Red will have set out on his gym quest and get sidetracked by the Giovanni plot.

Red's dealings with Team Rocket will cause him to become jaded and downtrodden, which will tie into his absolute silence at the end of the sequel where Gold encounters him on the peak of Mt Silver.

Also the region is a mishmash of Kanto and Unova; movie poster is red and pikachu facing away from the camera and looking out and up at Castelia City at night in a rainstorm.

The trailer opens on a black screen with nothing but audio.

woman [through phone]: Red? oh god, Red, is that you?
young male: Yeah, mom.
Mom: Where are you? Is everything okay?
Red: I'm fine, mom, don't worry.
Mom: It's just that with everything that's been going on... I heard Rocket showed up in Cerulean. I know you've been looking forward to it, but... maybe you should put your league training on hold for a few years.
Red: Yeah, I think I'm going to.
Mom: Thank god. I spoke to the professor, and when you get home—
Red: Actually, mom, I'm not coming home.

Then a series of timpani banging fade-in-out shots, including N addressing a terrified crowd with Zekrom behind him, Rockets marching in formation through a town to set fire to a gym, and a wave of Rocket pokemon fanning out and attacking townspeople trying desperately to deploy their own monsters for protection. A blastoise takes aim at a radio tower and prepares to fire at the door before lighting crashes down from the sky and directly into it, scorching the earth around it and causing its cannons to warp and drip molten steel. It collapses and seconds later Pikachu falls from the sky and into camera view. A trainer in an iconic red hat extends his arm and the pikachu is warped and bent into a stream of jagged red energy and flies into his hand.

It would be what all shitty Holywood reboots are, origin stories. Take the most recognizable character (Ash) and show how he got Pikachu, how he met Misty and Brock, Team Rocket would be the main antagonist, and in the 3rd act Ash would have to rescue Pikachu from Team Rocket and defeat Gary.

Nah, plot twist reveals that Giovanni is Red's father. This causes Red, who up until now had developed a sympathy for N and his cause, to snap and attack him in a jealous rage.

In the movie, pokemon are like dueling weapons; people have to carry pokemon to defend themselves from attacks by others. So Red doesn't "challenge N to a battle", he sics Pikachu on N and N summons, say, Zekrom to defend him.

Red becomes jaded because of the deciet by everyone he ever trusted and at the end of the movie climbs the mountain where N was born, bringing the "abandoning civilization to commune with nature" motif full circle and explain Red's mountaintop presence. Him staring out over the snowy waste alone is the movie's final shot, with him tossing a pokeball in the air, wondering whether to toss it (and every other one he owns) out over the edge.
