All Wally wants to do is be like you. You helped him catch his Pokemon, which gave him the hope to beat his awful health, in order to become a Pokemon Master. Not to mention he's one of the quickest-advancing trainers, in the time it took you to gain five badges, he gained eight and made it close to the end of Victory Road, with a great team.
