It would be way more annoying than like using a VS Seeker. Every single time you needed to travel through a route you would have to rematch every unavoidable trainer there, and possibly accidentally face some of the optional ones too.

Thing is, diglett is less than a foot tall.

I'm talking 20, 25 feet on this thing.

They should be little bumps and warts with noses and eyes, smaller than the tentacles on his star-nose.

Also, he should be coming out of the ground torso-first (sort of like Colossoil from Smogon), just to keep the "no idea what the lower half looks like" troll going.
