I think there's a chance Golurk will actually get a new evolution or form or something in gen 6. It appeared in battle in the trailer as well as being on the statue near the mansion.

In ancient times there weren't many things/objects made out of steel. Instead its probably a doll/clay/rock/guardian thingie. Like you would put on the village gates or something. As to how they came to life....beats me
