I've found that using less pokemon make the game more enjoyable. I now only go through the games with 4 pokemon and 2 HM slaves. This means I don't have to waste time grinding and I get some pretty good bros too.

Or you could try nuzlocking, the survival challenge or just using one pokemon to beat the game.

I'm doing a "use Pokemon I've never considered using before" run in BW2, made things much more interesting since I've had to actually plan my strategy with some forethought. Highly recommend doing this.
