To be honest, I've only completed the PokeDex on Pokemon Blue and this was a couple of years after it came out. There were two kids who helped me do it with their games.

Also, I've done the regional for Black (twice).

getting all of the pokemon legitimately is practically impossible unless you know people that still have legit mew, celebi, and deoxys and would be willing to trade so you can get your dex entries

gen iv and v are really easy because of wifi trading

It depends on what you count as legitimate. If you count glitches as part of the actual game then Gen 1 is the easiest by far.

I caught them all in Emerald, managed to get to the event that gave Deoxys and got most of the legendaries from the 10th Anniversary event.

Never done it on any other game though. 385 was enough, thank you.

Yeah, I kinda did it: I never do any cheat, but when I got some pokémon of GTS, they were cloned or the owner maked it by Pokégen.
