Kind of obvious considering Ash's lack of growth in the series.
Honestly, I'm not a shipper but, adding romance and feelings of love for someone is a part of growing up so I wouldn't see romantic feelings toward a character as an interruption. It's two different relationships really that both are featured in a coming of age story. It could be an interesting element for the series to explore but, based on the anime's direction it's best to stay away from that.
I do have to disagree with the last statement though. If the food is tasteless without the parsley why would it not be needed? No one likes tasteless food so therefore the majority would prefer the parsley in their dish. So I wouldn't say Misty's existence is weak at all.
She's a friend, and human relationships are just as important as the relationship between a human and Pokemon.
But, that's just my 2 cents.
