she was basically the only reason whatsoever to watch the anime during that period.
she's basically the first legit "hard evil" villain Ash encounters. she tries to flat out kill Ash in every episode she appears in if I remember correctly
also (spoilers ahead, obviously)
she gets an epic on-screen two minute "death scene" at the end of the Team Galactic plot in which she and her entire team is explicitly finished off. for the pokemon anime its pretty bad ass
