What are some of your stupid moments in Pokemon?

When I got Sapphire, I thought for the longest time Trapinch was not in the Flygon line.

When I first started Pokemon at age.. 8?, R/B, I kept wondering how to get my Pokemon to follow me like in the Anime.

For those wondering, 20 now, and grew up completely with Pokemon.

I encountered my first shiny in Silver, a green Tangela. Commence overkilling trying to catch that sucker.

The only ghost moves prior to gen 4 that could be considered physical are Lick, Astonish and Shadow Punch. And no dark type moves in gens 1-3 were special. Really silly decision there, ghost and dark should have been switched.

Maybe. If I consider patterns, one special and one physical type were introduced in gen 2. There were no physical Eeveelutions. But then again, muh patterns

I remember thinking there was some huge mystery at the Ruins of the Alph. I spent hours trying to find a secret, and seeing if there was a way to tell scientists that there were unown down there, I also tried to catch every letter of them.

I also never knew about different move types being physical & special prior to gen 4, I also never used boosting moves or status moves besides sleep

I used my Masterball to catch Moltres because I thought you could get more, Mewtwo was a bitch.

I didn't realize that until a couple of months ago. I always though Flygon was a stand alone, didn't even remember Vibrava existed.

In gold and silver when they introduced rock smash and how you had to break rocks in your way with it. When I first clicked on a rock in my way it said "your pokemon is not strong enough to break this rock". So I thought that I had to jack up my guy to break the rock. By the 2nd gym I had a level 38 Feraligatr and it still kept saying the same thing when I clicked it. I got frustrated because I didn't know how much I had to level my guy up before I was able to break the rock. I was 12 at the time.

When I was eleven, I thought that after you defeated the Champion etc you got to open your own Pokemon gym, and you selected the trainers by mixing records with your friends (RSE) so that they appeared in your gym like when they appeared in their secret bases. I even went scouting for the biggest secret base because I thought that's where your gym would be. I thought random NPCs came to challenge you every now and again, like every time you hit a Pokedex milestone. You'd receive challenge alerts through the Vs Seeker.

My friend also had me convinced that after the game, you could go to the space station and they'd put you on a rocket to the moon, where you could catch a special OP Whiscash called Wishcash. I can't remember what he said happened after that, though. Probably something about Mew.

I also seem to be incapable of remembering any except the most obvious type match-ups, and I only recently found out that being resistant to something =/= being super effective against it.

I didn't, my friend's older brother had a Flygon, and at that point I had a Vibrava. I thought Vibrava looked like Flygon so I asked, "Does Flygon evolve from Vibrava?"

Not quite that, but I figured that patterns would have to repeat because of the number of pixels on Spinda. So, I caught one Spinda, and proceeded to catch any Spinda that looked similar to see if they had the same pattern.

I only realized that while playing FRLG, when there was a subject in the help section on whether types were physical or special.

I proceeded to completely disregard it, because I had no idea how EVs/IVs/stats in general worked, and I just figured my Pokémon just needed to know strong moves.

I finally learned about what IVs and EVs were sometime around when gen 5 was announced.

After watching the episode where Ash battles Jasmine and her Magnemite evolves (IIRC), my brother convinced me that if you lose to Jasmine the first time, her Magnemite will evolve. Until a few years ago, I've always grinded heavily before my match with her.
