Starting a new Fire Red game, should I pick Blastoise or Venusaur? Depending on which one I choose which other grass/water type should I use

Bulbasaur if you want it easy at first but harder in the long run. Also quite versatile.

Pick Blastoise. It is the only pokemon you need in the game. Surf, Icebeam, EQ, and Body Slam. Don't bother using any other pokemon.

He's super effective against 4 gyms and resists 5 of them, only being weak to Sabrina and Blaine. Blaine is easily beaten by Kingler, although Sabrina will be difficult.

As for the E4, only Lorelie will be a problem for Venusaur, but literally anything else will destroy ice.

I will say though, that Blue's team completely counters Bulbasaur, though.

I'm thinking either cloyster or kingler and maybe exeggutor, I don't like most of the First gen grass types.

I use mine to obliterate Lances team. He just got walled the fuck out and destroyed by ice beam.

I fought like a hundred Venonat to train his special defense EVs
