Anyway, my girlfriend likes cute Pokemon, so I guess there's that. It's not that she doesn't LIKE big'n'ugly ones, she just doesn't prefer them. Which is fine. She's not very competitive at all except if it's proving her Pokebros are good (which, don't tell her I said this, they're not). She has trouble wrapping her head around programming mechanics such as scripted stuff or turn order. But she's more or less normal.

I've known two girls who were into Pokemon. The first one was 7.5/10. She collected a bunch of the plushes and had all the games. She was really talkative and had a boyfriend. She wasn't a casual either. Her knowledge of the franchise was pretty adept. The second girl i knew was more a casual. She had played up to diamond and pearl and i let her borrow black .she said she liked it. She was about an 8/10 , but I'm pretty sure she had asparagus because she was pretty socially awkward and was in all honors classes.

I'm a girl, I've played Pokemon since Red and Blue, I play competitively when I'm bored but I don't let that stop me from enjoying the story lines of the games.

I play other video games too, though I suppose that's not really relevant. I take care of my looks, I do wear makeup, and any female who says a girl is worth any less than her because of that needs to shut up, it's my choice, I just feel more confident for it. I have a job, I have a boyfriend, and I'm pretty average looking.

I don't know why I'm posting this cause all the girls on /vp/ are different though.

I've known girls who like Pokemon across the casual/hardcore spectrum. Almost all of my friends, male and female, like Pokemon to some degree or another, and most keep up with the most current games. Of my female friends, some play through the story line and that's all they really want or need. Some travel on to the postgame and dick around in things like the PWT and Battle Subway, but they don't EV train or IV breed. Then I know a girl who regularly goes to tournaments, chains and Mastudas for shinies, etc etc.

Personally, I'm a step below that last one. My Pokeknowledge is probably greater off the top of my head than her, and I EV train and IV breed and play on online simulators, but I would not be able to deal with the spaghetti of a real-life Pokemon tournament. I don't bother going looking for Shinies, though.

My research notes;

I've yet to know/meet a girl who has knowledge of DPP or newer gens, although I did see a girl walking around campus with a Tepig/Snivy/Oshawott/Pikachu waterbottle thing. Outside of that, I saw one girl out in the main courtyard with a Pikachu hat so that was something. Not bad looking either.

In a poll of a few random girls at our campus that a buddy of mine asked (he was playing Black) in his class, he found one had no idea of anything outside of Pikachu despite telling him "OMG I LUV POKEMON!", one named off Charmander and Squirtle (couldn't remember the third) and another named off Pichu, Charmander and Squirtle. Apparently all girls hate Balbaseer. It should be noted that these girls were not fans, but just generally had a small idea of the series.

Surprisingly out of the ones that I've encountered that like Pokemon, none have been landwhales which I think is incredible.

Everyone thought this wouldn't last much after its creation but we have more traffic than many other boards.

I think this is pretty neat, we've created a nice community.

I enjoy playing it but I don't breed or play competitively, so after I finish the game I get bored with it. Mostly because I don't want to restart since I won't have the same Pokemon again; I know it's been said countless times but I wish there was more than one save file.

I've played Blue, and nothing until college because I thought the subsequent games were ripoffs and I didn't want to spend money to catch the same ones (this was around FireRed).

A while later I played a bit of Pearl (my friend got me back into it in college since she was enjoying it) but by then everything was so different I didn't know what to do (new types, breeding, weather etc$ and I wasn't too thrilled about it.

I tried SS after that since the same friend was excited yet again and we could battle etc but sadly that didn't hold my interest either.

I felt like a bad fan because of it. But after I bought White I felt excited to explore and learn about Pokemon again, so I'm looking forward to X and Y.

Long story short, I'm a casual fan in the sense I don't compete and I haven't played all 5 gens. Ta da.

I just don't know how to apply it. I can't battle my way out of a paper bag. The only time I did anything more than spam STAB was in Gen 4 when the Physical Special split made it so I didn't have to memorize what type was what. I played through Gen 2 and most of Gen 3 with unevolved starters. I am super retarded.

Oh, I don't worry about training that kind of stuff during my actual playthrough. I usually race through the game, choosing 3-4 Pokemon I like, and I've gotten rid of my starter from the beginning since gen IV. I just like battling with a full team against other players.

Certainly 'most' aren't, but some are, and that population accounts for 'most' of this person's experience, not the 'most' of the entire population of black people.
