Is Gen2 it's own gen? Because technically it is actually just an extension of gen1, it doesn't even follow patterns of following gens. Gen1=Gen2. Discuss.

Gen 1 = original
gen 2 = extension
gen 3 = original
gen 4 = extension
gen 5 = original
gen 6 = extension (at least it seems to be...since it has an eeveelution)

Gen 2 indeed felt like more of an expansion pack.

Fixed Gen 1's bugs and glitches, and only added 100 more Pokemon.

Not really. Gen V was more of a reboot. I only count gen 2 as an extension because it was directly linked with gen 1, as in Kanto was in G/S.

It had a huge influx of Pokemon, enough that try didn't need to reuse a single one in BW. That in and of itself is enough to qualify as a sequel.

Any list that has gen 5 as an extension is automatically wrong. Gen 5 is the most stand aloneish of all the games since gen 3. They reset the routes and older Pokemon aren't available pre-E4 until BW2.

Gen II is the only generation I would consider to be an extension. It seems to push aside many of the Gen II Pokemon in favor of the Gen I Pokemon.

Gameplay and storywise uncritical references aside Gen 5 did indeed have no connections to the previous ones.
It had a completely new story and a completely new set of pokemon who didnt evolve form or into previous ones.
