Can I actually evolve before post-game, and can I use different, not shitty choices later

I think Timburr, Purrloin, Cubchoo, and Lillipup would've been good choices to expand the roster personally. Maybe Sandile too.

Red/Blue Rescue team had 16
Explorers of Time/Darkness had 16 choices.
Explorers of Sky has 18 choices, discluding playable Meowth/Muchlax for 4 additional choices.

And then gates to infinity has a whopping 5.

God forbid they don't give you variety.

The previous games had all of the available starters plus a few extras (Like Meowth, Skitty, Cubone, etc).

Going by that there should at least have:

>Pikachu
>Gen 1 starters
>Gen 2 starters
>Gen 3 starters
>Gen 4 starters
>Gen 5 starters

Giving you at LEAST 16. that's not including random 'cute pokemon' they usually pick to let you play

Which could include things like Scraggy, Drilbur, Zorua and etcc

Except for you and your partner, yes.

Companion Mode lets you use any team member besides yourself and your partner as your player character. You get this not long after your first three recruits.

On the starter roster itself, they really should've used at least a few more Pokemon, but it didn't bother me much in the end because I wanted to use Oshawott in a Gen V PMD anyway. And the roster as a whole is lame, and I hope the inevitable Gen VI-based PMD has all the Pokemon since they'll already have an engine to recycle.

Dude, they went from 2D sprites to 3D models, what the Hell did you expect? The 3DS cartridges don't exactly have a lot of memory, so if they had added all of the starters, they'd have to shorten the game.

Up to 4GB cards are in production, 8GB is possible, and the game wasn't even 2GB. Pretty sure it wasn't even 1.5GB.

Models don't take up that much space in a game. It's the audio and FMV files that eat up most of the space. The final cutscene of Zelda Wind Waker was a FMV, and took up more than the game itself.

Card space is not nearly as much of an issue as people assume.
