Water is best overall. No really bad starters in any generation. Meanwhile, Grass has crap like Serperior and Meganium, and Fire has Infernape.

Water is definitely the best.

How is hitting Fire, Ground and Rock super effectively and only being weak to Electric and Grass bad? Besides, water pokes tend to have good movepools, and most of them learn Ice Beam.

I like all of the starters from every generation except for infernape, and that's only because I dislike apes and chimps and that sort of thing. My favorites from every generation, however, has always been the water types. In particular I feel that Feraligatr stands out as one of the more awesome of the bunch. I mean, it's a bipedal giant blue crocodile, what's there not to like?

My second favorite water Pokemon is Crawdaunt, because Crawdaunt is just so fucking cool looking, and his typing is neato as well.

I'm sorry to say, but you are wrong on both counts. Feraligatr, Swampert, and Empoleon had good stats, and Platinum!Sinnoh is fun.

What all Water Starters are is slow. We've yet to have a Water Starter that's even moderately fast.
