There, the graphics become glitched up and the game loads some random area. For example, in Japanese Crystal (likely in English and other localizations of the game as well), there's a void on Route 34. When you enter it, the graphics glitch up and the game recognizes you as being in Azalea Town. Your sprite also disappears. Even if you return to Route 34 and enter another map that causes the game's graphics to be reloaded in RAM, your overworld sprite as the player continues missing because the game still has its data loaded on the map you accessed to in the void. The way to fix that issue is to Fly to that map (in this case, real Azalea Town) in order for the game to completely reload all graphics data, including your overworld sprite.
