I honestly used to hate gen 5 because of lel ice cream and garbage. I looked passed that and realized most of the pokemon are awesome.

Seeing how much pokemon evolved since gen 1 (no pun intended) really made me happy.

Pokémon isn't "ruined", it's just changed. Yeah, each gen has a different feel. So what? It's either that or no new gen. Even if gen seven turns out to introduce 0 new Pokémon and involves purely old Pokémon battling galactic pink dildo aliens, the point is I still get to enjoy training and fighting with my favourite Pokémon.

People like to jump the gun; we don't even know what the new Mewtwo thing is. We don't know anything about gen six and people are shitting on it. Maybe that's the reason they're being so tight-lipped about it: the more they reveal the more pissed off people get.

The final point I want to make is that Pokémon means Pocket Monsters. Monsters. In the original generation, all of them were monsters. Even Rattata was a rat MONSTER, not a rat replacement. The ones which weren't based on a concept from media (cloning, fossil revival, dragons, etc) were meant to be similar to Japanese yokai, including inanimate objects that come to life after 100 years. They weren't spirits per se, but creatures with a spiritual or supernatural presence.

Somewhere along the way after gen two, they kind of lost their way. Presumably out of ideas, they decided to try and make a Pokémon equivalent of every type of fauna and flora extant in our world. This is where PETA and stuff come in because gen three established Pokémon not as monsters with supernatural power and endurance, but as animals meant to fill in for what we have in our world. Generation four seemed at once scraping the barrel and attempting to return to the original by expanding on the supernatural side (making literal deities) and expanding on previous generation Pokémon. Generation five is a weird one but it seems to have been testing the water for a generation one "reboot" of sorts: they probably figure "people still like gen one" and "if the old formula still works, copy it", and that's why generation six so far has two Pokémon stemming from previous generations.

I don't think Unova is that different.
I think all the Pokemon designs aren't too different from the ones in Gen I--as a matter of fact, they're better.
I don't believe in overdesigned Pokemon.
If a design isn't good, it isn't good.
The only major difference I felt between Gen V and, say, Gen I was the importance of the plot which is a major improvement in my eyes.
I love a good story.

Now they aren't perfect.
Not all Pokemon are created equal.
But I do love each and every one of them.
I remember that feeling of childlike wonder when I met my first starter, Charmander, and the other Pokemon of Red.
I remember that feeling of pride when I defeated Giovanni, and then my rival.
And I felt those same things when I discovered my first shiny in Ruby, and my second in White, when I overcame N and Ghetsis.

Okay, don't use it. Nobody's gonna come to your house with a bat and make you train Majin Muu. This is a legendary pokemon almost guaranteed to make zero plot appearances. Know what that means? It means unless you deign switch Mewtwo's form of your own volition, the odds of this pokemon appearing in your game are about zero.

Pretty much this. I know that I've grown up since the original Red/Blue days, but the fact of the matter is that I've still felt much of the joy in regards to Pokemon now as I have way back when.

I never let the idea of change in the franchise get to me. I never allowed myself to get hung up on how a Pokemon SHOULD look. I have always viewed all Pokemon as Pokemon because they ARE Pokemon, and ARE part of the franchise as a whole.

I look at each generation as a younger sibling of the other gens. Not all siblings are the same, and many have quirks or appearances that can be different from each other.

If you allow yourself to get hung up on how things 'should be', then you will never move on. If you allow yourself to be dead set on only appreciating the past gens, then you will never like any gen that comes after. You will have expectations that will never be met because you are limiting yourself.

Pokemon as a whole is still the same as it was since the early days. It's just that people allow themselves to be clouded by various aspects that prevent them from appreciating it all.

Pokemon during Gen II and before were simple in design because of the lack of hardware. The Gameboy and Gameboy Color couldn't really display all that much in regards to complex designs.

Later gens can add a small level of complexity due to the advancement of hardware. Pokemon are able to look more varied and have smaller details such as more spots or stripes, or something like that.

Neither the simplicity of the early gens, or the more developed designs of the later gens should be hated. All of the Pokemon have their own charm and niche to fill.

Designs have evolved since the old days since there is more room to do so.

Okay, no. if Gen V was too big a change for some people, I want those people out of the fandom. Pokémon is the slowest-evolving series this side of Call of Duty, and that's probably because Nintendo/Game Freak doesn't want to alienate people who don't want things to change. So as it stands, every new Pokémon game is pretty much the minimum amount of different it can get away with to avoid absolute stagnation. I highly doubt we'll ever get anything as new and interesting in the main series as the Zelda and Kirby series produced with Majora's Mask and Epic Yarn. We certainly never will if a prominant portion of the fanbase is whining about fucking Black and White being too different.
