I do the same thing since I've never really been disappointed enough in a starter for it to be replaced. If anything, it becomes an HM slave that can fare alright in battle.

Basically after I've beaten the Elite Four and the Champion and have gained access to my National Dex and caught my Legendary.

When I can finally not worry about the plot and more about filling up the Dex.

I usually use my starter throughout the entire playthrough, the only exception being my current/first run of Black 2. Tepig is just disappointing.

Me too, same with any captured pokemon that I've trained for at least a little while. I just get attached and can't replace them, even if I'm tired of using them or they're being a drag on the team. It sort of feels equivalent to abandoning your real friends when the popular kids start to notice you. Feels wrong, man.

I used to keep my starter until B2. I didn't want to use any of them so I just put it in the box and forgot about it. It felt good. I felt like I had more freedom.

on B2 was the first time I boxed my starter (tepig) and just because I got riolu early, didn't want 2 fighting types. It's easier when you box then sooner, haha.

I've always kept my starters and 9/10 they make it through my entire nuzlocke run too. But I gotta be honest, I hit Black/White and Black/White 2 and they found themselves in the box before long. So goddamn underwhelming.

But everyone before that Njal my Venasaur that saw me through my FireRed run and somehow managed to take down Lance with only a Jolteon and an Arcanine to help. Ulrich my Feraligator got me past the E4 without a single death. Horus my Blaziken (Who turned into a real bro even though I hated Blaziken) Aesop my Torterra. They've always been the glue to hold together my teams.

Dunno how you guys can do without them.
