I heard that you need special hardware that requires opening your ds for. It is also expensive and hard to find.

You have to beat the Elite Four 100 times and push the truck, then it gives you John Gamefreak's email address at which you contact him. Then he comes to your house and upgrades your GB/GBC/GBA/DS/3DS to allow you to record video.

There is hardware you can purchase if you want to record videos directly from your DS, but I imagine most people use an emulator.

As for the 3DS, unless you want to be -that guy- and record with a video camera, you'll need to buy fucking expensive ass hardware.
