What got you into Pokemon and also what brought you back?

My earliest memory of playing Pokemon was my brother's Ruby (Yes, I'm a Hoennbaby) and I had no idea how to play it then. I've wanted to play D/P but never played it, even when I had a flashcart (still have my DS but no card).

I got back into Pokemon when my friend (who's a fan of Oshawott) showed me the news about X/Y, and I downloaded Emerald on my computer because my emulator has been sitting there for months.

I Have been playing since the games came out. But I stopped after ruby. What got me back into it was nothing actually. A couple of weeks after Diamond and pearl came out i was bored and i said to myself "Lemme try playing pokemon again." so i started playing emerald, and FR/LG. i instantly got hooked again. I got into Pokemon when I was 5 and moved to America from Greece. My mother's friend had a Silver GBA and a copy of Pokemon Silver, and I didn't know any English. I remember I was just sitting there with my twintails and a little dress, playing with their cat and speaking Greek, and they wordlessly handed me the system and cartridge with a smile. I was enthralled. And that's how I learned English. I've been into Pokemon ever since, and I still go back to that old cartridge on my scratched Game Boy Color.

I first got yellow version like a month after it came out, i remember i got it from a pawn shop for like 15 bucks haha! I loved the game so much i couldnt put it down for a second! I then traded my yellow version for a gold version to a kid at my school when it came out, then i traded thay gold version for a crystal version when it came out at summer camp. After that i just played that crustal version till R/S came out. When they did A friend of mine gave me his copy of Saphhire. I played that game for like 3 weeks before i sadly lost it. After that i didnt play until Diamond and pearl. I played diamon and then got back into it even more than i was before, ive replayed all the games starting from Red version and now im waiting anxiously for X&Y. I doubt this time around ill leave pokemon.

What got me into pokemon was the show. I sort of left in Gen 3. I tried getting into RS but they couldn't keep my interest. Then I tried FR but it couldn't keep my interest either so I chose to continue playing my old GB games (Silver and Yellow).

I tried DP but I couldn't get into them either until I tried Platinum. After I finished Platinum, I tried the Gen 3 games. I cleared FR pretty quickly then went on to the Hoenn games. I almost finished Emerald but lost interest after Wallace.

I started on Yellow, and then got Crystal. I was a 3rd version person for the first two generations. Then, I got Sapphire. One day it magically disappeared and I kinda neglected Pokemon until FR/LG was released. I remember begging my parents to pre-order it, and it came with a shitty how-to book. I got LG, and my bro got FR. This brought me back into Pokemon big time after the loss of my Sapphire cart. Been getting versions via pre-order ever since. (Minus Emerald, I didn't get that until after I got Platinum.)

I got one of the promotional tapes in the mail somehow back in summer 1998, and bought Pokémon Blue at K-mart within a month of its North American release using money I'd been given for my birthday. Left the franchise as a teenager, blaming what I saw as lower quality in the Hoenn games but really actually because I was a 16-year-old asshole who thought myself beyond Pokémon (aside from playing Red whenever I was experiencing emotional turbulence, which in high school is all the fucking time). Got back in three years later, when Generation 3 was way over with HG/SS was just coming out, and /v/ was so covered in Pokémon threads that within a few months some board would be created to hold them. Loved it, felt it distilled what I liked about Pokémon in the Johto years and built on top of that solid foundation. Played Platinum after that when my computer broke and I had nothing to do but play the DS while it was being fixed, enjoyed the story and the new expanded Legendary mythology.

Around the time the 4th gen came out, I drifted away from it, and I never really thought about it from 2010-2011 because I was caught up in My Little Pony.

When Black and White came out, I decided to try Black out, and that was the day I got back into Pokémon. And later in 2012 I ignored it completely for around 3 months until last month, when Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity came out.

Oh god I love the new Mystery Dungeon.

I played red on a floppy disk, proud of the fact my playing screen was big-ass. Didn't care about shitty graphics. Those days were awesome. Said best friend gave me his gold version and old gameboy when he won another one in a pokemon themed competition.

Didn't play gen 4 because i didn't had a ds at the time. Got back with Black and white, and the game is still awesome. Still playing Black and white 2 with best friend. Feels good.

When D/P came out I bought the game on a whim because I'd heard through the grapevine about the new physical/special split and the updated graphics but I didn't touch it for ages and even when I did try playing it, I only made it halfway through. What really got me back into the series was going to college and making friends that still played, plus the release of HG/SS. Since then I've been one of the bigger fans in our group.

Got Red version for my 6th birthday. Loved it. Bought a few sets of the card game too, but didn't really collect them or play the game at all. Then, played obsessively through Yellow when it came out. Not sure why, but I didn't get into G/S much. I vaguely remember playing through Silver, but for some reason it didn't stick with me. I was much more into fantasy games (like Baldur's Gate and stuff), SSMB, and Halo.

Got back into it hardcore as a junior in high school with Diamond. I had moved twice since Silver, so I'd made new friends who hadn't completely moved on from Pokemon like my old friends had. I loved all the post-game shit, and I was actually smart enough to learn about the metagame, EV training, strategies, etc. Multi-battle in the Battle Tower was amazing.

Though my interest waned a tiny bit not long before Platinum came out for some reason, which made me not pick up the US version for a few months, my interest was somehow rekindled by a combo of nostalgia with HGSS and stumbling upon erotic fanfiction of Pokemon. I needed something to do in the downtime during pizza deliveries and at red lights/stop-n-go traffic, so I went to gamestop and bought the next-to-brand newest pokemon game they had (soulsilver) and a red dsi. Grandma bought be a gameboy and red to shut me up on long car rides. I ended up talking about the pokémon instead of just whatever. I was fucking amazed. It was my first game and the first time I ever saw anything moving on a screen that wasn't just shows on tv. I think what really kept my interest past the point where it wasn't cool to like pokemon anymore was that I didn't have very many friends, and my home life was pretty rough. I just quietly played my GBC with Crystal until my family finally saved up enough money to get me the GBA and Ruby. Like two years after release. We really didn't spend much money like that, but I didn't complain. I just really liked the world they painted. I liked being able to find something nice whenever I was bored, even if it got a little familiar after a while.

I don't think that I could ever leave because they "killed the franchise" or anything. Every gen has something I really like.

I stopped playing around the time my mother died and I had to go into a foster family. Everyone made fun of me calling me a child and would go out of their way to make fun of me. I let it get to me, and I had no one to play with or what have you, so Pokemon kinda seemed pointless at the time.
When I got older, I just remembered the happy comforting feeling I got from having MY pokemon with me. Just creating a bond with some stupid data and watching it grow. Plus some were just cute and made me happy to be with me. And I still experience that joy every once in awhile. Theres very few things that make me feel like that

when I was around 6 years old my mom bought me my first handheld game system, a golden Pokemon Edition Gameboy Advance. It had Pichu outlines at either top corner of the screen and in between them it said "Pokemon Company". It came with a copy of Pokemon Leaf Green and I've been hooked ever since.

Flash forward a few years and after beating Emerald and entering "edgy teenager mode," I dropped it. I went back to it when I was 17 by getting Platinum. I think it'll stick with me this time.

I technically never left. I've played every gen as they came out, but I was really going to call it quits after gen III.

I enjoyed it but I was really feeling the fatigue ; gen IV brought me back and I suspect it brought many people back too.

Lost interest when I was about 9-10 grade 4/5 (2003ish I guess), at this point, yu-gi-oh and beyblades were the big thing at my school

Didn't touch pokemon until about 2009-2010, when my little sister was in grade 1 and everyone there played pokemon. I remembered how much I enjoyed it when I was a kid and got back into it. Picked up white when it came out and got back into the TCG

I got back into it recently when some friends decided that they wanted to start doing nuzlockes of third gen. I'm playing through platinum normally right now to see what types of Pokemon I'm going to need for each part.
Gardevoir and Jolteon seem like must-have Pokemon so far.
