Hey /vp/
/tg/er here, I don’t hang around here often or at all, but I figured you guys are the best to ask.
I’m going to be running Pokemon RPG soon at the request of my players. Now my experience with Pokemon is … Rather limited being only Red/blue, Gold/Silver, and the Fireredleafgreen versions. So I’ve been doing some reading up on what I’ve missed.
What I’m here for is: I would like to know about strange in-world Pokemon evolutions that deviate from the norm. So for instance Diglett or Magnemite according to the dex entries actually require you to go out and find two other species of the same type, and then they merge into their evolved form. So I’m on the look out for other strange things as such. Shedinja the discarded husk, Scyther uses metal coat, etc.
Even pokemon that you have to go out and do something above and beyond normally “catching” one: programming a Porygon, Jarrasic-Park-Cloning an Aerodactyl, constructing a Genesect.
Elemental stones, leveling normally I’m aware of and will happen as normally as possible.
Evolutions that are based solely on in game stuff: non-fluffed trade evolutions (Red/Blue Gengar or Alazakam), or other evolves based on stats (Beauty or happiness) need not apply as they hard to translate into tabletop without adding many unneeded stats unless something really stands out about them.
So any other odd transformation out there? And perhaps for my benefit a little blurbed on the Pokemon itself as I’m still reading up all the new generations.
TLDR: Looking for in-fluff strange evolutions.
