Playing Soul Silver for the first time and was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good team for me?

Geodude already knows Rock Smash.
I never had a problem with Whitney when I was younger playing Silver.
Just wondering if theres any good pokemon I should use or how I should raise the ones I have.
