Early Pokemon stories

No.11979101 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Anyone want to share some stories about playing Pokemon early on, as in Gen 1 or Gen 2? Most of us were kids at the time so we all probably have a few memories that amazed us and stick out.

The most powerful Pokemon I ever encountered other than Mewtwo in Gen 1 was this dyslexic kid's Charizard, when we were in 4th grade.

He literally could not read any text from the game, you should've see his character's names... basically "Urdshfj" or "Halkdldgskn."

He couldn't even figure out how to fight Brock, so he spent upwards of 60 hours having his Charmander fight Pidgeys and Ratatas, and evolve it. All the way to level 100.

One day we linked up our Gameboys and I fought him one on one with my lvl 100 Mewtwo, since he kept talking of how awesome his Charizard was. Well, I won... but holy shit, that thing was so sucking strong I'll never forget it. I had to use Recover nearly 10 times in a row after 2 Psychics didn't kill it, and it's Fire Blasts and Flamethrowers were just ducking hitting like tanks. I was amazed. Afterwards I checked the stats and they were all legit, no cheats... just slightly higher in every department than any other Charizard seemed to be.

I'll never forget how fucking strong that thing was, I must have raised about 6 Charizards of my own to 100 to try and get something like that, but I never did. Moral of the story? Maybe super long training like that makes Pokemon slightly more powerful.
