Blue was very interesting to me because more than a jerk-ass he seemed like a guy that wanted to be your friend but didn't know how to go about it so he acted (somewhat) antagonisticaly.
Silver was also fairly interesting, but I think that his presentation in the story could have been fleshed out better. His conncections to Team Rocket should have been made apparent in the main game as opposed to an event. Otherwise, he just seems like a giant hypocrite.
Wally easily has the most wasted potential considering his story and the fact that you only fight him twice, but beside that I like him a lot.
May/Brendan are fairly middling for me in everything except for the fact that they never fully evolve their starter. That shit is just stupid.
Barry is possibly my favorite. I found his personality humorous and endearing, and as far as battling goes, I like him because he keeps up with the main character fairly well and even overtakes them just a little bit by the time you hit the league.
Cheren/Bianca have fairly lackluster/boring teams even in postgame (it would feel better if they had gotten more than 4 before then), but I like their character arcs a lot.
Hugh is probably my least favorite. His design is sort of cool, but it doesn't look like anything any normal person would actually wear. It's too shonen-y. That aside, his team is pretty disappointing and in the story, while his rage is kind of funny the first time, he becomes a broken record later on.
Overall I would say:
Barry>Blue>Silver>Cheren/Bianca>May/Brendon=Wally>Hugh
Out of all of these Hugh is the only one I blatantly dislike.
