Hey /vp/. Today I went to GameStop(yes, I know) to buy Heartgold or Platinum. I couldn't decide between the two and just bought Heartgold. I wanted to return it, but apparently they don't allow it. So now I'm stuck with Heartgold, my least favorite gen. So I was just wondering, can you catch any Pokemon from previous/newer gens in main game? Are there any gameplay differences from the original? Is it fun? Any good themes I should look out for?

Not really in Johto, but once you hit Kanto there are a lot of Gen III and IV Pokemon around. And actually some of the Gen IV evolutions of Gen I-II Pokemon are available even before the Elite 4.

Okay. Is Togekiss good in-game? I've never used one before, and I remember Elm gives you a Togepi at one point.

Not sure, but in any case, that one's not available until after the E4 (unless you trade in a Dawn Stone). The ones who are available earlier are the ones who evolve from knowing certain moves (for example, Ambipom and Mamoswine).

Togekiss is pretty good, nice special attack and good movepool. Although you will need 2 heart scales for its 2 best moves (Air Slash and Aura Sphere

1. HG/SS are probably games with highest number of avaible pokemons without trades (I don't know shit about BW2 though). The only things they lack are few legendaries, version exclusives, gen4 starters and few pokemons that evolve only in certain places (Magnezone, Leafon, Glaceon). The rest is avaible either through normal gameplay or pokewalker. This is the reason I finally decided to buy HG over Platinum.

3. Fun is relative concept. Some people like things others don't like. For me it isn't bad, I like it more than B/W or FR/LG, but still I like Sinnoh region (Platinum) the most. I find the best thing presence of 2 regions, the worst, that most wild pokemons are on really low lvl. I'm raising my breeded pokemons mainly on rematches and super rod fishing (forced 40 lvl wild pokemons) because everything else is like lvl 2-20.

It's okay. The instrumentation is, sometimes, sumptuous, but all in all is a much better transition than the one from R/B/Y to FR/LG. I still think most of the OST couldn't improve much, if at all.

Late in the game you get fanservice'd with an item that changes music to the original 8-bit, so that's a nice touch.

You should really try BW/BW2. Grinding and breeding is a piece of cake
